Add Energy scanner to your home screen. It opens full screen with its own icon, works with no signal, and there's nothing to download from an app store.
You're all set
You're already using the installed app. Nice.
One tap on this device
Your browser can install it straight away.
iPhone and iPad
Open this page in Safari. (Chrome on iPhone works too, using its own Share button.)
Tap the Share button: the square with an arrow pointing up. On newer iPhones it may be inside the ••• menu.
Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
If you see Open as Web App, leave it switched on. Then tap Add.
Find the yellow battery icon on your home screen and open it from there.
Android
Open this page in Chrome.
If an Install button or banner appears, tap it. If not, tap the ⋮ menu in the top right.
Tap Add to home screen (or Install app), then choose Install.
Open it from the yellow battery icon on your home screen.
Using Samsung Internet? Tap the ☰ menu, then Add page to and Home screen.
Stop little fingers wandering off
Handing the phone over? You can lock it to the scanner, so it can't be swiped away into your emails or photos.
iPhone: Guided Access
Open Settings, then Accessibility, then Guided Access, and turn it on. Set a passcode.
Open Energy scanner and triple-click the side button (or the Home button on older phones). Tap Start.
To finish, triple-click again and enter your passcode.
Android: App pinning
Open Settings and search for pin. Turn on App pinning (sometimes called Pin app or Screen pinning).
Open Energy scanner, then open your recent apps. Tap the app's icon at the top of its card and choose Pin.
To unpin, hold Back and Overview together (or swipe up and hold), then unlock.
The exact wording varies a little between phone makers.
Good to know
Updates arrive by themselves. Open the app while you've got signal and it picks up the latest version.
To remove it, press and hold the icon and choose Remove (iPhone) or Uninstall (Android), just like any other app.
